Oberlin and the Civil War Digital Collection
In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, the Oberlin College Archives partnered with the Oberlin Heritage Center in 2011-2012 to build "Oberlin and the Civil War," a digital collection of Civil War era materials in the Oberlin College Archives. Karyn Norwood and Richard Donegan, AmeriCorps Ohio History Service Program volunteers serving out of the Oberlin Heritage Center, assisted with the selection, description and digital capture of period materials. While the project reflects the collecting policy of the College Archives to document College history, the close relationship between college and town dating from their simultaneous founding in 1833 is apparent in this array of materials.
This project was published June 22, 2012, but will continue to grow during the Civil War sesquicentennial years ahead.
