The Oberlin Offbeats

About the Offbeats

The Offbeats are a 9-member co-ed jazz a cappella group based in Oberlin College. We were formed in the spring of 1997 by a group of six students with a love of singing and an interest in exploring new types of music. We enjoy singing vocal jazz, pop music, and improvisations.

In recent years, the Offbeats have focused primarily on singing in and around Oberlin's campus. We've done several joint concerts with Oberlin's all-female a cappella group, Nothing But Treble, and can be seen every midterm week performing with them and the all-male Obertones. We also like to do solo concerts, as well as ad-hoc gigs for events like Parent's Weekend, Shabbat Dinner, and the Big Parade.

In past years, the Offbeats have sung at various other colleges and schools in the Northeastern U.S.. Additionally, the Offbeats have performed in such venues as Severance Hall in Cleveland and have appeared on segments on National Public Radio.
