Coleman wins NCAC award

The Oberlin men’s and women’s outdoor track teams competed Saturday at the Mount Union College Invitational where senior Amber Coleman earned the honor of NCAC Sprinter of the Week.

Coleman placed first in the women’s 100m dash with a time of 12.93, followed closely by first-year Danielle Brooks in third with 13.25. They were also members of the 4x100 relay team who ran 50.81 for first place, along with juniors Leslie Bosworth and Teresa Collins.

“I’m honored to be recognized,” Coleman said. “I feel like I’ve improved a lot and I owe credit to my teammates for cheering me on and keeping me pumped.”

In the 100m hurdles, first and second place went to senior Shannon Houlihan and junior Leslie Bosworth with times of 15.64 and 15.83 respecively. Bosworth finished second in the 400m hurdles, running 1:11.56 and assisted the 4x400m relay team in taking second place. The relay team consists of first-year Carmen Welton, Coleman and Collins.

There was a three-way tie for second place in the high jump, including senior Faye Doherty with a height of 5’.

Oberlin took first and second again in the triple jump as Houlihan reached 33’ 03” and Doherty had a distance of 32’04”.

The men’s team was led by senior Jeremy Lane, who ran 2:01.36, giving him fifth place in the 800m run. Junior Dewayne Evans placed sixth in the same event with sophomore Daniel Keeney and first-year Matt Ferris-Smith taking eighth and ninth place respectively.

The men’s 4x400m relay team came in fifth as Lane, Evans, senior Brad Coryell and first-year Micah Petersen ran the event in 3:41.59.

Outdoor track will travel to Otterbein College on Friday for the Division III All-Ohio Championships at 1 p.m. It will be the team’s second meet of the season.
