Students experience difficulty expressing their conservative side
Republican students remain politically active outside of Oberlin, but many have experienced some degree of isolation based on their political orientation. Republican students share some of their experiences.
Two pre-school children hospitalized
Three individuals have been exposed to the e.coli bacteria in Lorain County, including one Oberlin resident. Two cases have developed into Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, a life-threatening disease. The two individuals, both pre-school children are currently hospitalized.
Lack of coordination causes confusion between groups
Members of the Feminist Majority and the Department of Safety and Security are both interetsed in reforming the security escort system. Some members feel miscommunication between ther groups has prevented the process from moving swiftly.
Politcs faculty discuss election, party system
Politics professors participated in a forun discussion about next week's presidential elelction in front of a packed lecture hall. The members of the panel predicted Clinton will win Tuesday's elelction.
Both parties' campaigns invite student workers into the fold
Many students worked on campaigns over Fall Break. Two specific students, a democrat and a republican, discuss their experiences on the job. Both students also went to their party's national convention over the summer.
Group of students go to Mississippi, help rebuild church destroyed by arson
Nine Oberlin students went to Mississippi over Fall Break to help with the reconstruction of a church there which was destoyed by arson during the rash of fires in black churche sin the South. Junior David Heafitz organized the trip.
March inspires, motivates groups
Students from La Alianza Latina and the Oberlin Socialist Student Union joined thousands of other marchers in Washington D.C. before Fall Break. Marchers came back with inspiration, motivation, refelctions and photos.
One part would become non-profit in status
Oberlin Student Cooperative Association (OSCA) is planning to divide into two different corporations, OSCA and OSCA Properties. The split would allow OSCA Properties to become a non-profit corporation.
Quilt will be on campus in December
The AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display in Oberlin over the first weekend of December in the Heisman Field House. Organizers are planning educational events to surround the display, including inviting local school groups and reading the names of persons who have died of AIDS.
LGBU brings variety of speakers
LGBU is holding a conference this weekend to mark 25 years of activism at Oberlin. The group hopes students from other schools and Oberlin alumni will join Oberlin students at the conference. The weekend will feature workshops, performances and speeches.
