You Can Say that Again

"I sear and consume the still-beating heart of young gopher to appease the running gods."

-Nate Gross

College first-year
Explaining his pre-meet ritual.

Senior wideout Brooks-Church recorded six catches for 50 yards against Denison last Saturday. His final catch brings his total career receptions to 199, making him the new NCAC all-time reception leader. Despite the fact that the Yeomen have amassed a 1-33 record during his time here, Brooks-Church has still managed to achieve greatness.

IN THE LOCKERROOM WITH...Daniel Romano

Photo of Dan Romano

College junior Daniel Romano is an outfielder for the Oberlin baseball team. Two years ago, he was suspended by former coach Todd Mooney for dyeing his hair green.

Since your return to the team, how have you been received by your teammates?
I initially felt like they didn't like me very much, but then I realized that many of them don't know me. Only a couple of players from the 1997 team are still here. But I now feel as if I am a respected member of the team.

Were you ever able to reconcile your relationship with former coach Todd Mooney?
No. I see no reason to reconcile my relationship with former coach Mooney. What's in the past should remain there. I'm just here to play baseball.

How is the team doing during preseason practice?
Since Eric Lahetta has become coach, I have sensed quite a bit more energy and enthusiasm in practice.

Who is "Big Texas"?
Big Texas is my DJ name.

Why did you dye your hair green?
Well, I'd never seen a baseball player with green hair and, to tell you the truth, I wanted to see a baseball player with green hair.

Who would you rather make love to - Meg Ryan or Jack Nicholson?
Jack Nicholson now, or Jack Nicholson circa 1974?

Circa 1974.
Oh. Meg Ryan.

Do you plan to enter the amateur baseball draft in June?
Yes. I would like to play for the Baltimore Orioles.

Who is your favorite athlete?
Carlos Perez of the Montreal Expos, because he has the vibe.

The vibe?
Well, he jumps around the mound a lot, which is basically what I do on my bed at night. It's fun.
