"There was a moment in the Wooster game when a chick slammed my finger. I was bleeding all over the place, sucking it so the refs wouldn't see. It hurt like hell, but I thought to myself, 'I have to keep going. Do it for the team, Jesse. Do it for Oberlin. Do it for your country.' And that's why I'm All-American."
Mercer, a college first-year, turned heads this week when she broke the 20-year-old Oberlin school record in the100 meter backstroke. Especially impressive was the fact that she was racing in her very first college meet. The sky's the limit for Mercer, with coach Dick Michaels saying that he wouldn't rule out All-American status for Mercer. She also figures to be part of the backbone of what is shaping up to be one of Oberlin's best women's swimming teams ever. |

Coming off an 18-2 shellacking of Wooster last week, the Oberlin Plague take on archrival Denison tonight.
So, Larry how does it feel to actually be in the lockerroom?
What are exactly are your responsiblities?
Do you have a relationship with the athletes you come into contact with on a weekly basis?
I see. Could you elaborate?
Let's move on. When did you first come to Oberlin and why?
Eighteen years is a long time. Have you seen a lot of changes in your time here?
Is there a particular sport you like to watch?
Ok, do you have a favorite sports team?
Great, why?
Thanks very much for your time, Mr. Ramey.

IN THE LOCKERROOM WITH...Larry Ramey
Mr. Ramey is the equipment manager for the men's varsity teams.
There's a gratitude to it. Athletes appreciate it. You work a lot of hours, but I like it.
I clean and maintain all the men's varsity equipment.
Yes.
Well, I hope we're friendly with each other.
It was eighteen years ago and I came because i heard they were hiring.
Not really.
No. I like all of them.
The Dallas Cowboys.
They're pretty good and the Browns left.
You're welcome.
