News Amidst the
College’s backpedaling to reinstate intern positions, about 70 concerned
students staged a silent protest outside Tuesday’s General Faculty
meeting. The students, who held signs with slogans such as “I love
the MRC —support faculty of color,” were rallying for broad
ranging administrative changes, all of which were articulated in a list
of demands presented to the faculty. Arts Apologies
should be sent to anyone who attended Vibe’s performance last week.
The presentation was unimpressive and disappointing on so many levels.
Vibe has a reputation of reflecting on the black aesthetic in the form
of jazz and tap, yet these elements were not highlighted in the performance. Sports Earlier in
the season, the Oberlin baseball team had its sights on 15 wins —
the Oberlin College record. With eight wins under their belts and most
likely (weather-allowing) just six games left to play, the team will not
reach that mark. But despite coming short of this goal, the season has
been a resounding success for Oberlin baseball. Perspectives To the Editors: ABooker
Peek’s letter in the Review last week voices complaint over a proposed
college policy to record Fs on students’ transcripts. He hinges the
argument largely on racism and its corollary disadvantages. It is true,
Mr. Peek, that racism still remains hidebound to American culture. |
