News The College’s
meal plan has hit a new high: students on the five-meal plan are now paying
$14.50 a meal. That’s about twice the cost of buying each dinner
meal individually at $7.50. Arts The Con
has a new face this fall as Steven Smith ta kes over the helm as Music
Director of Orchestras. He replaces former director Paul Polivnick, who
left after a five-year tenure. Smith will have the responsibility of leading
bi-weekly rehearsals for both Conservatory orchestras and conducting them
in concerts when no guest conductor is scheduled. In addition to this
high-profile job, Smith will also occupy a place on the visiting faculty
of the Conducting Department. Both positions have contracts signed only
through this academic year. Sports The Oberlin
College women’s soccer team added two wins and a loss to their record
this past week in games against Cedarville University, Olivet College
and Ursuline College, improving to 4-3. The team built upon a 1-1 weekend
by shutting out Ursuline on Wednesday in a 4-0 run, while playing without
its leading goal-scorer, senior Courtney Stackhouse. Perspectives To the Editors: he ongoing
debate on Iraq perhaps has tended to be silent on one important aspect:
Mr. Bush, since his installation as president of the U.S., has sought
aggressively to alter, and often undo, policies of the preceding administration.
In matters of foreign policy he has worked to minimize any U.S. submission
to rules and interests of the international community; for example: the
denunciation of the Kyoto accords, the refusal to sign a Treaty banning
biochemical weapons, the strenuous efforts to counter the constitution
of a viable International Court of Law, etc. |
