Rec.
Center Justifies Visitor Policy
To
the Editors:
The following is a short explanation of the entrance
policy of the Recreation Center (a.k.a., Philips P.E. Center) and
the rationale behind it–
Every person entering the Rec Center through either the south or
west door entrances are asked to show their OC identification card
or OC Recreation Center ID. This helps the door monitor identify
who is entering and whether they really belong within the complex.
Those entitled to use the facility are current students, employees
and their immediate families (spouse or domestic partner and dependent
children under 21), alumni and current members of the Oberlin College
Recreation Center.
For eligible facility users, the Oberlin College Recreation Center
strives to promote the following:
1. Enticing opportunities to experience the exhilaration
of gaining total fitness.
2. The opportunity to learn new skills, games and activities related
to
life-long leisure activities.
3. Programs that allow one to gain a sense of self-awareness and
promote holistic wellness.
4. The intermingling of Oberlin College students with faculty, staff
and members on a consistent and regular basis.
Secondly, the monitors are recording attendance
numbers – facts that are instrumental in decision-making about
facility hours, particularly at this time of fiscal restraint.
PLEASE help us keep accurate counts of users in order to justify
maintaining open hours for your use and enjoyment.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
