Conductor Most Becoming

Raphael Jiménez will step to the podium to conduct the Oberlin Orchestra featuring Conservatory of Music piano performance major Zhi Qiao ’13. Jiménez joined the conservatory in 2001 as associate professor of conducting and director of Oberlin orchestras. The orchestra earlier this year received a standing ovation during its Carnegie Hall concert.

Zhi, who won the Danenberg Honors Recital Competition, will play the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3. The young musician has performed in music festivals, chamber groups, and will be a guest pianist for the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.

The performance is free and takes place at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 13 in Finney Chapel. It will be webcast and streamed live at the time of the event.
