Ryan Jones, an artist diploma student of Robert Walters, professor of oboe and English horn, relishes a master class experience with legendary English hornist Thomas Stacy, who recently retired from the New York Philharmonic Orchestra after 39 years. He visited Oberlin Conservatory of Music this year to present two master classes for students in the conservatory’s oboe studio.
Says Jones of his experience, “I feel very privileged to collaborate with the many artists who come to give master classes. In this ever-changing profession, we learn the latest in industry standards from each guest.” In addition to Stacy, Professor Walters has brought in top musicians from the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Saint Paul and Orpheus chamber orchestras, Cincinnati Symphony, and San Francisco Opera.
