Today’s homebuilders don’t have much on Frank Lloyd Wright, who designed the Weltzheimer-Johnson Usonian House in 1947. Situated on a lot several blocks from the Oberlin College campus, this house is the first of its kind in Ohio and one of few in the nation open to the public. This brick masonry and redwood structure, completed in 1949, has no attic, no basement, and little ornamentation. The Usonian-style house was Wright’s response to the demand for beautiful and affordable middle-class homes in post World War II America.
See this remarkable house for yourself. Attend an open house and tour the building between noon and 5 p.m. on the first and third Sunday of each month through November. Presentations begin on the hour starting at noon. Cost is $5 payable at the door.
