In The Training Room with...

Sarah Breon, Jordan Kaltman and Jen Miller

Breon, Kaltman and Miller, all senior student trainers, have had their fun in the training room, but perhaps nothing compares to their ability to dish out “ishe” and ibuprofen to wounded Yeoman athletes.

What are some of the grossest things that you have seen as student trainers?

JM: Well just now we took care of a blister that took up all of someone’s heel. It was like four inches wide and really nasty.
JK: Yeah, it was all peeled and raw.
SB: Okay, guys’ feet are disgusting.
JK: I like guys’ feet.

Yeah, they’re okay. So anything else disgusting happen?

JM: Yeah, when [junior] Bob [Montag] popped his shoulder out in football, that was pretty gross.
JK: Well, probably the worst injury I saw was my freshman year in football when Adisa Chaney took a sweep to the right, and the next thing I know I heard a snap and his leg was facing the wrong way.

Wow. Changing subjects, what do you guys do for fun?

JK: We watch DVDs.
JM: Yeah, and for the track meets that are really long, we go to the library and rent DVDs.

Do you travel with the teams a lot?

JK: Yeah, and you get a lot of free meals, too.
JM: I travel with a lot of guys teams, which isn’t a bad deal.

What do you think about Head Trainer Tim Carver?

JM: He’s great. He tells jokes during baseball, so he entertains us.
JK: He’s grrrrreat.

What about Assistant Trainer Sean Landis?

JK: He’s mad cool.
JM: Sean gives me love advice

What kind of love advice?

JM: Now that wouldn’t be very professional. He does introduce me to people, though.

Do you think [first-year student trainer] Jesse Kipp’s hair is a liability in the training room?

JM: Jesse Kipp is awesome. When his hair is short he looks like Matt Damon.
JK: What are you talking about?

What’s your favorite team to train for?

JM: I’d have to say track. I like track a lot.
JK: I like baseball beacause I have a lot of friends on the team.
SB: I like watching men’s lacrosse; it’s more aggressive than the other sports.

So do you ever play chicken in the golf carts?

JK: No, but we definitly have races.
SB: Yeah, we all have golf cart driving skill.

What are some of the main things that you are taught by Tim as trainers?

JM: Well, an important one is that ‘ishe’ and ibuprofen will fix everything.

‘Ishe’?

JK and SB: Yes, ‘Ishe.’
JK: Ice and ibuprofen will fix any ailment.

Have the ishe and ibuprofen ever failed you?

SB: Well one time last year Jen was jinxed.
JM: Yeah, during one week I worked last spring one person every day got hit in the head.

So have you guys ever played a sport?

JM: No, I’m a professional bencher.
SB: No, she played soccer in high school.

You watch a lot of DVDs, so do you have any movies that have inspired you as trainers?

SB: Oh yeah, Varsity Blues, and that scene where thay are injecting that dude’s knee.
JK: Any Given Sunday.

Jordan, you’ve been injured a lot. Isn’t that kind of ironic?

JK: [extends middle finger] Yes.
