Athlete of the Week 

Jabari Spruill

Spruill, a senior jumper on the men’s track and field team, won the long jump and triple jump in a non-scoring meet against The College of Wooster and Hiram College last Friday at Oberlin’s Dill Field. Spruill jumped a distance of 20’6” in the long jump and 41’1 1/2” in the triple jump. Also, Spruill won the triple jump with a leap of 42’07 1/4” and finished in third in the long jump with a jump of 20’11” at the Wooster Open on Friday, Apr. 6. Other Yeomen and Yeowomen champions in Friday’s home meet were the women’s 400-meter relay team, senior Jenni Huelsman in the 1500-meter run, first-year Shannon Houlihan in the 100-meter hurdles and long jump, junior Nzinga Broussard in the 100-meter run, first-year Quammie Semper in the 100-meter run, senior Liz Chandler in the 200-meter run and triple jump, the men’s 1600-meter relay team and sophomore Stephen Klosterman in the 200-meter run.

Australian Jackson to be WNBA Top Pick

Lauren Jackson, a 19-year old from Australia, who was the leading scorer and rebounder on the Australian’s silver-medal winning women’s basketball team in the Sydney Olympics, is expected to be the top pick in today’s WNBA draft. If selected first, she will go ahead of scoring sensation Jackie Stiles from Southwest Missouri State and injured All-Americans Tamika Catchings of Tennessee University and 
Svetlana Abrosimova of UConn.

No Longer the San Francisco Treat

The San Francisco 49ers have announced the impending release of Jerry Rice, the 38-year old NFL career receiving leader. He has had talks with the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders 
and Seattle Seahawks.
