Oberlin College Announces Artist Recital Series for 2002-2003. (August 28, 2002)
AUGUST 28, 2002--For 124 years, the venerable Artist Recital Series at Oberlin College has brought distinguished, world-renowned musicians to Finney Chapel on Oberlin’s campus. Subscription tickets are now available for the six-concert, 2002-2003 season, featuring the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, pianist Marc-André Hamelin, violinist Hilary Hahn, the Prazak Quartet, The Cleveland Orchestra conducted by David Robertson with pianist Yefim Bronfman, and mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves.

Works by Innovative Book Artist on Display at Oberlin College through September 28. (August 26, 2002.
AUGUST 12, 2002--Oberlin College's Mudd Library will host an exhibition by innovative book artist Richard Minsky September 3 to 28. Minsky will also deliver a brief gallery talk and a public lecture about his work on the afternoon of Monday, September 9.

New York City's Nubian Gents to Perform in Lorain. (August 12, 2002)
AUGUST 12, 2002--The Nubian Gents, a Christian male step group, will give a free performance in Lorain, Ohio, Tuesday, August 20. Oberlin College graduate Lamont O'Neil '91, director of the Nubian Gents, brings the team to Lorain County as part of their Hope Tour USA 2002. The performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Faith Ministries Christian Center, 1306 Euclid Avenue.

Winners of the Eighth Annual Oberlin Piano Competition Announced. (July 30, 2002)
JULY 30, 2002--Jung Lim Kim, a 17-year-old pianist from Seoul, Korea, is the winner of the eighth annual Oberlin International Piano Competition and Festival. The final round of the competition for pianists age 13 through 18 was held in Warner Concert Hall at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music on Saturday, July 27, 2002, and broadcast live on WCLV 104.9 FM, Cleveland’s classical music radio station. Miss Kim, a student at the Seoul Art High School, received $4,000 for her first-prize winning performances of the first movement of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sonata, Op. 111, No. 32; the first movement of Sergei Prokofiev’s Sonata, Op. 82, No. 6; and Franz Liszt’s Après une lecture de Dante.

Credo Chamber Music Association, Led by Oberlin Conservatory Viola Professor Slowik, Announces Programming. (June 25, 2002)
JUNE 25, 2002--Peter Slowik, professor of viola at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College and artistic director of Credo Chamber Music Association (CCMA), announces CCMA's fourth summer of programming, with activities that include a series of public Oberlin concerts, some of which are free, a Chicago-area tour, and performances in Alaska.

James David Christie, Former Organist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, to Join Oberlin Conservatory Faculty. (June 24, 2002)
JUNE 24, 2002--James David Christie, organist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) from 1978 to 1998 and, until recently, chair of the organ and harpsichord department at the Boston Conservatory of Music, is joining the faculty of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College.

Oberlin Conservatory of Music Presents Baroque Performance Institute 2002. (June 11, 2002)
JUNE 11, 2002-- The Baroque Performance Institute (BPI), America’s premiere summer workshop for baroque instruments and voice held for two weeks each summer at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College, marks its 31st season by celebrating two great national musical styles of the baroque era.

Frank "Happy" Dobbs Named Oberlin's Mens Basketball Head Coach. (June 5, 2002)
JUNE 5, 2002--Oberlin, Ohio – Frank "Happy" Dobbs has been named head coach of the men’s basketball program at Oberlin College. The announcement was made by Clayton R. Koppes, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and vice president of academic affairs.
