Quiz and Homework Information:
- Homeworks:
- Homework will be due weekly on Mondays in your discussion section.
- For some homework problems, answers will be available. Therefore, if you do not show your steps, justify your answers, and write clearly and in complete sentences you will get no credit.
- Late homework is not accepted.
- You are encouraged to discuss homework assignments with other students and collaborate, but there should be no copying. The solutions should be written up independently.
- The homework assignments can be downloaded from Prof. Kiselev's webpage . They will be posted as the class progresses, normally at least a week before the due date. All homework assignments are posted on Prof. Kiselev's website and can be found here.
- Please remember to write your NAME and DISCUSSION NUMBER on your homework and to staple it properly.
- Your lowest 2 homework scores will be dropped.
- Summary Sheets:
-
Students will have the opportunity to earn a bonus point on each homework set by presenting summary sheets for the sections covered by the homework. These summary sheets are meant to include all the information from a given section that you would need to study for an exam, and should certainly include all important definitions and statement of theorems, as well as some discussion of the types of problems encountered in that section and strategies used to solve them. Students that have written these in the past have found them very useful for learning the material and studying for the exams.
Be sure to turn in your summary sheets with your homework. However, please STAPLE THEM SEPARATELY from your homework.
- Quizzes:
- There will be a quiz every Monday during discussion section. It will cover the material from lecture the week before.
- If you miss discussion, you miss the quiz. No make-up quizzes will be given.
- Solutions will be posted here in a timely manner.
- No calculators or electronic devices of any kind!
- Your lowest 2 quiz scores will be dropped.
- Solutions:
You should check this out. Be sure to have the sound on.
Handouts:
- If I pass out any handouts during discussion, you will also find them here.
Discussion Section Grade:
The discussion section grade will be determined as follows: Homework will count 75%. Quizzes will count for 25%.
At the end of the semester, the discussion section grades will be normalized so that all the sections in our lecture have the same average.
(This will account for the differences in grading from TA to TA.)
Your discussion section grade makes up 20% of your overall course grade.
