Between the years 1905 and 1914 members of Cleveland and Pittsburgh churches came to Oberlin and helped the small congregation with revival meetings and tent campaigns. Many of the earliest members of this church identified with Smoot Memorial Alliance Church in Cleveland. The small Oberlin church grew and prospered under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. The founder and president of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Dr. A.B. Simpson also inspired many members when he spoke at a nearby conference. To this day some members recall the powerful preaching of Black Gospel Singer, Rev. Ed Burgess when he held yearly revivals here. Another inspiration to the small but growing church was the Cleveland Colored Quartette. The present minister is the Rev. Charles Mayle.
Music still provides inspiration in the worship services through hymnsinging and solos. The church hymnal is Songs for the Family of God. Some favorite hymns are "How great Thou art" and "What a friend we have in Jesus".
