OC Shows Disregard for Safety

Dear President Dye and Dean Goldsmith:

I am writing to voice my concern over the recent decision to grant (postponed) degrees to the three students found guilty of assault in the incident that took place in Barnard Hall this spring. This decision by the College makes me feel unsafe insofar as I am a member of a community that is not only failing to hold criminals fully accountable for their crimes, but is furthermore rewarding them by allowing them to participate in the
recognition and honor of the Commencement ceremony and by granting them Oberlin degrees. I am not comfortable being on a campus that purports to have a primary concern with the safety of its students, yet fails to demonstrate such concern in its decisions. I intend to inform my family, friends and any prospective students that I personally know of Oberlin College’s disregard for the seriousness of this crime.
