Julia
Sakharova Featured on Rachmaninoff Release
Violin performance major Julia Sakharova '03 has inspired a record
label.
With Korean pianist Yung Wook Yoo and Icelandic cellist Margret
Arnadottir, Sakharova is featured on a CD recording, The Elegiaque
Piano Trios by Sergei Rachmaninoff, released in 2001 by fledgling
Tavros Records and available on amazon.com.
Sakharova first met Yoo and Arnadottir at the summer 2001 session
of the Music Academy of the West, Santa Barbara, Calif. where
(after having rehearsed together three times) they performed a
movement of Rachmaninoff's Trio Elegiaque in D Minor for a chamber
music master class given by pianist Jerome Lowenthal.
In the audience were Hillary Hauser and Bruce Savin, who were
inspired, then and there, to launch Tavros. (For an account from
Tavros' producers, Hauser, Savin, and John Robinson, see www.TavrosRecords.com.)
Sakharova, 22, was born in Zheleznovodsk, Russia. She studies
with Professor of Violin Milan Vitek and is a member of the Erato
Quartet. (For more about the Quartet, see Accolades)
