Colleges and universities outside of Oberlin are encouraged to bring classes to the museum during regular museum hours: Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Please note that the museum is closed on Mondays.
Guided Tours: Both general introductory tours and focused thematic tours can be provided by docents or museum staff. Given the high use of the public galleries by Oberlin College and K-12 classes, we ask that you schedule your visit with the Office of Academic Programs (440-775-8645) at least one month in advance. Please note that professors must accompany their students on the gallery tour.
Professor-Led Class Visits: In order to guarantee the most effective and positive experience for your class, we request that you contact the Office of Academic Programs (440-775-8645), with the date and time of your visit at the beginning of the semester. This will ensure that your teaching in the gallery is not disrupted by another tour group and confirm that the desired exhibition or works of art will still be on view. Due to the Education Office’s busy tour schedule, space conflicts can arise when the museum is not notified in advance of your plans.
Please note that 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Tuesday - Friday is the most popular time for school tours and that Tuesday Teas are scheduled at 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. If you would like assistance identifying objects on view related to your class topic, please contact the Office of Academic Programs (440-775-8645) at least one month prior to your visit.
Our galleries are not static, and works are frequently rotated off view due to conservation concerns or loan to other institutions. Consequently, if you plan to focus a course around, or assign students to write about, a work currently on view, it is important that you inform the Office of Academic Programs well before the semester begins. If it becomes necessary to de-install or relocate that object we will make every effort to notify you in advance.
Security officers are present in the galleries. While on duty, they are entrusted with the care of the collection. Please be courteous to the officers and respect any suggestions they might make in regard to the safety of the collection.
