This podcast was produced as part of Professor Elizabeth Hamilton's First-Year Seminar on Disability which examines conceptual and historical models of disability, studying how, by whom, and under what circumstances any given definition of disability emerges. For this assignment, students were asked to describe an artwork from the AMAM's Ripin Gallery for someone who could not see it, be present to view it at the Museum, or who could not access the second floor by stairs. Their description does not historically interpret the piece, but is meant to allow for the listener to draw their own conclusions about its messages. Students expanded their vocabulary for verbal description by using guidelines prepared by the authors of Art Beyond Sight (E. S. Axel, V. Hooper, T. Kardoulias, S. S. Keyes, and F. Rosenberg). |
