Art Rental

Saturday, February 15, 8 a.m.–noon.

An Oberlin College tradition since 1940, Art Rental invites students to live with an original work of art (or two) for a semester for a charge of just $5 per work. The Art Rental collection has about 400 works from which to choose.

Each semester, Art Rental takes place on a first-come, first-served basis from the courtyard entrance to the museum (these back doors are located on the north side, off Lorain Street). Students may line up at the bottom of the entrance ramp; please do not block the door.

Beginning at 8 a.m., students will be admitted to Art Rental in groups of five. Oberlin College faculty and staff, and community members, also may rent works but, like students, must hold their own place in line.

A maximum of two works may be rented. Please have a valid Oberlin College ID card or proof of Oberlin residency and cash or check ready. No credit cards are accepted. The cost is $5 per work.

After checkout, exit down the north stairs and out the museum’s rear door. Works may not be carried through the galleries. Be careful to hold the works firmly and try not to bang frames on stairs or fixtures.

Wednesday, May 6, 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Second floor of the Allen Memorial Art Museum

There will be a late fee of $10.00 per work per day for works returned after the above date. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. Museum offices are open on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rentals may be returned any time the museum building is open, including weekends and Mondays. Prior to return week, email reminders are sent to all renters.
